K-beauty is no longer a niche trend. Brands like Dr.Melaxin show it has entered the mainstream

Not long ago, discovering a Korean skincare brand required trawling specialist websites or relying on recommendations from beauty enthusiasts. Today, K-beauty has become one of the fastest-moving forces in the global cosmetics industry, fuelled as much by social media as by decades of skincare innovation. Viral products may still grab the headlines, but increasingly the brands enjoying lasting success are those making the leap from smartphone screens to the high street.

Few illustrate that shift more clearly than Dr.Melaxin.

The South Korean skincare company has become one of the UK's biggest beauty success stories almost overnight. Since launching on TikTok Shop UK in November 2025, the brand has sold more than 700,000 products, generated over £19 million in sales and climbed to the top of the platform's Beauty and Personal Care category. Its arrival in 196 Boots stores, with dedicated retail bays in 156 of them, signals something even more significant: a social media phenomenon becoming an established high street name.

Much of the attention surrounding the brand has centred on celebrity endorsements. Rapper Cardi B helped propel one of its products into the spotlight after sharing the Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule with her followers, attracting hundreds of thousands of likes and prompting a surge in demand. Yet while viral moments can introduce consumers to a brand, they rarely explain why it continues to sell long after the social media buzz fades.

That is perhaps where Dr.Melaxin's product range becomes more interesting.

Its flagship Peel Shot Exfoliating Black Rice Ampoule has emerged as the brand's signature treatment, designed to exfoliate the skin while helping improve texture and reduce the appearance of pores. Used a handful of times each week rather than daily, it reflects the layered skincare routines that have become synonymous with Korean beauty, where gradual improvements are often prioritised over quick fixes.

Elsewhere, the Cemenrete Calcium Volume Multi Balm has become one of the company's fastest-selling products. Designed as a portable treatment stick for areas such as the under-eye, it taps into growing consumer demand for products that fit easily into everyday routines rather than requiring lengthy skincare rituals.

Perhaps the most intriguing product in the collection, however, is one that has received considerably less attention. The TX Tranexamic Acid Cream focuses on pigmentation and uneven skin tone using tranexamic acid, an ingredient that has steadily gained recognition within dermatology for its role in helping reduce stubborn areas of discolouration. While ingredients such as vitamin C and niacinamide have become familiar names among consumers, tranexamic acid represents the latest generation of skincare actives attracting interest from both professionals and increasingly informed shoppers.

That growing sophistication reflects a broader shift in the beauty market itself. Consumers are becoming less interested in celebrity endorsements alone and more focused on ingredient lists, clinical formulations and understanding how products actually work. Korean skincare brands have often been at the forefront of that movement, introducing ingredients and routines that later become commonplace across the global industry.

As K-beauty continues to mature, its success is likely to depend less on fleeting viral trends and more on sustained consumer confidence. Moving from TikTok Shop to permanent shelf space at one of Britain's largest pharmacy chains represents an important milestone in that transition.

For Dr.Melaxin, the remarkable sales figures may have been driven initially by social media. Whether its long-term place in Britain's skincare market is secured will depend on something rather less glamorous: whether consumers return once the algorithm has moved on.
