New research can reveal the biggest wedding trends of the year.

Money experts at Wealth of Geeks analysed Google Trends data as well as Pinterest data to establish which aspects of a wedding are the most sought after this year.

The most searched for aspect of a wedding dress in the past twelve months has been an off-the-shoulder style with searches for the style rising 334% in the last year – more than any other type of wedding dress. In terms of material, lace remains the most popular option, however, chiffon has seen the biggest year on year rise in search volume and in the last year alone has seen a 675% increase in online interest.

Outside of the traditional wedding dress look, wedding jumpsuits have also experienced high levels of interest, seeing a 60% interest in the outfit from this time last year.

Paris Hilton and Hailey Bieber are the celebrity brides that appear the most popular. Paris Hilton, who wore seven different dresses throughout her three-day ceremony, claimed her favourite dress was the Grace Kelly inspired Oscar de la Renta dress. The custom gown featured crinoline, lace and a high neck to complete the look and was searched for and pinned more than any other celebrity dress. Hailey Bieber has the second most popular wedding dress look of the last year despite her wedding to Justin Bieber taking place in 2018. The bride wore an off-the-shoulder neckline with a dramatic veil by late designer Virgil Abloh. In the last month alone, Hailey’s dress has had a 138% rise in interest on Pinterest.

The most popular wedding hairstyle trend as found by Wealth of Geeks is the half up, half down look. The simple yet elegant style has been used by famous brides such as Kate Middleton and Olivia Palermo is the most popular hairstyle associated with the term ‘wedding hairstyle’ on Pinterest and has also a global monthly search volume of 30,100.

The second most popular is a classic bun hairstyle, seeing a 95% rise in searches since the beginning of 2022.

Summer is undoubtedly the most popular wedding season, with Summer wedding’s being searched 14% more than Winter weddings, the second most popular, 146% more than Autumn weddings, the third most popular and 428% more than Spring weddings, the least popular season.

The pandemic has put wedding’s abroad on the back-burner with searches for UK weddings being searched an enormous 3,179% more than weddings abroad.

Outdoor weddings appear to be the most anticipated setting for weddings in 2022. An outdoor setting is the most pinned wedding option, alongside more rustic venues such as barns, courtyards, and vineyards.
