Historic charm, fabulous food, a seriously stylish crowd and of course a warm welcome for four-legged guests. Aragon House might just be one of West London’s best-kept staycation secrets.

There are some London addresses that simply seem to get everything right, and Aragon House in Parsons Green is one of them. Part boutique hotel, part neighbourhood pub and part impossibly chic social scene, it has that rare ability to feel wonderfully relaxed while still possessing that "must have" vibe.

I recently stayed at Aragon House and came away feeling like royalty. Sitting proudly on the edge of Parsons Green, just moments from the King’s Road and Chelsea, it is perfectly positioned for anyone wanting to experience this particularly lovely corner of London.

And what a building it is.

A House With History

Long before it became one of Parsons Green’s most popular places to eat, drink and stay, Aragon House had already secured its place in the neighbourhood’s history.

The handsome Georgian building dates from 1805–06 and is today Grade II listed. Even more romantically, its name recalls the fact that the site was once associated with a dower house belonging to non other than Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife!

The Food Is Worth the Trip Alone

Then there is the food — and this was one of the real highlights of my stay.

Aragon House may have all the trappings of a gorgeous boutique hotel, but the kitchen is certainly not an afterthought. Food here is taken seriously, I highly recommend the fish of the day, wow!

The emphasis is on seasonal British produce, with seafood featuring prominently alongside generous sharing dishes and of course all the British pub classics. There are daily specials, oysters and an excellent wine list, while Sundays are devoted to the great British roast.

And Yes, Bring the Dog!

One of my favourite things about Aragon House is that all this style comes without the slightest suggestion that your dog should be left at home.

Dogs are welcome in the main bar and garden, and there are designated dog-friendly bedrooms too. Overnight canine guests can even receive their own welcome treats, bowl and dog bed or blanket.

There is something rather fabulous about being able to enjoy a stylish London hotel, an excellent dinner and drinks without having to compromise because you have brought the dog along.

Aragon House manages to be historic yet contemporary, glamorous yet comfortable, and wonderfully grown-up without ever becoming stuffy.

For a weekend in London, particularly if you love beautiful interiors, fantastic food, great people-watching and travelling with your dog, it is difficult to think of a more appealing base.

I arrived expecting a lovely stay in Parsons Green.

I left wondering quite how soon I could come back.
