Q&A with Dan Rath

The show seems to explore pressure and perception after a breakout year. Did recognition change the way you think about yourself creatively? I don’t even recognize myself in the mirror.

Your material moves at such a fast pace with so many punchlines packed in. Has that always been your natural rhythm as a comic? Storytelling has been co-opted by corporations. All that is left is being insane.

Your humour feels very Australian but also strangely universal. Do international audiences respond differently to the material? My material shrinks under scrutiny. Especially international scrutiny.

You’ve had a huge international year, from Just for Laughs Montreal to Soho Theatre and beyond. Has travelling changed your perspective on comedy at all? It’s taught me that it’s much harder because I can’t talk about Grill’d which makes up about a third of my act.
