Crafting Legacy: The Timeless Elegance of Aberlour Whisky and the Birth of A’Bunadh

Aberlour Whisky was first founded in 1879 with the aim of creating the finest whisky, focusing on substance over style. Since its inception, Aberlour has harnessed a legacy of craftsmanship, passion and knowledge passed down through generations. The Aberlour distillery in Aberdeenshire, Scotland was first founded by a local farmer, James Fleming, who remained true to his family’s motto, “Let the deed show”, wanting the whisky to do the talking. This ingenuity lead to the implementation of practices such as reusing excess sherry butts which to this day still inform Aberlour’s commitment to sustainable practices.

In the late 90s Aberlour decided it was time to pay homage to their origins and recreate the whisky found in the time capsule all those years ago, and thus A’Bunadh was born and Aberlour was on its way to cult status. First created back in 1997, A’Bunadh is released in limited, numbered batches. Matured exclusively in Spanish ex-Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at cask strength resulting in slight variance in ABV from batch to batch but rarely dipping below 60%. Known for its deep dark mahogany colour, notes of raisins, fruit, malt, vanilla, chocolate, jam and heck, it is the perfect pairing for any Burns Night feast.

This whisky plays homage to a bottle found during Aberlour’s refit in 1973 where the workers discovered a hidden time capsule – a bottle of 1898 Aberlour.
